LANDERS, San Bernardino County — October 24, 2026. A driver looking at a rutted dirt road in Landers may reasonably ask when a grader will return. The county’s published answer is more limited than a fixed neighborhood schedule: Landers CSA 70 R-15 dirt roads are graded as funding permits. Its roadway-maintenance page says storms and available funds have reduced service in this particular zone.

Why Landers is different from other desert road zones

The San Bernardino County Special Districts road-maintenance schedule distinguishes local service areas. Wonder Valley, for example, is described as having weekly grading for primary roads and less frequent work on secondary roads, while Landers is explicitly listed under a funding-dependent schedule. The county says road zones differ in primary and secondary routes, maintenance budgets and storm demands. A social-media post describing work in another community therefore cannot establish a promised date for a Landers road.

How the Landers zone was created

The county’s Landers CSA 70 R-15 fact sheet says the Board of Supervisors established the district on July 9, 1984 for 163.54 miles of unpaved roads. It cites the historical district-level funding arrangement of a $20 charge per parcel on 3,497 parcels and says the zone does not have a standing municipal advisory council or Municipal Advisory Council. The absence of such a committee does not mean there is no county contact for maintenance concerns.

How to report a specific road problem

The Department of Public Works maintains a Roads and Streetlights service page with a Road Repair Request option. The site lists business-hours service at 909-386-8800 and an after-hours contact at 909-356-3805. A useful request identifies the street name, nearest crossroad, visible damage, whether a washout or blocked access is involved and, if safe, dated photographs. Submitting a request is not the same as confirming that a road belongs to the Landers maintenance district or that a crew has been scheduled.

What happens if the road-zone funding changes?

The county has separately begun considering possible dissolution of Landers and several neighboring road zones, with a November 17 hearing planned. Read Landers News’s separate report on the proposed dissolution. No final action or future funding replacement is assumed here. For current hazard reports, official county road closures and emergency information should take priority over ordinary grading schedules.
